she is going to a meth clinic for outpatient treatment and then going about with daily life including driving her children to school after. is this safe or ok?

NO! Anything that alters your senses such as pain killers and methadone should not be used when you are driving and vice versa. And needless to say she is putting lives in danger.

there is currently no drug treatment for meth use. if your friend is going to a treatment program they are not giving her any drugs in place of meth. As long as she is not using meth there is not problem with driving,.
