Drug addiction is an uncontrollable condition that can threaten the life of an addict. The addition of drug demands regular dose of the drug, which makes the person more and more dependent on the drugs. The drug occupies the minds and behavior of the addict. It causes harmful effects on the physical as well as mental health of an addict, which may not be corrected without a drug rehabilitation program. Anything that modifies the normal functioning of a body is causing harm to the body, which may be identified at the later stages.

One of the major effects of the drug addiction is that it weakens the immune system of the body. Immune system is one of the vital systems in the functioning of a body as it helps the body to fight with the external and internal infections and diseases. A body with weakened immune system is more prone to external microbial elements, which is why the addicts are often infected with communicable diseases. Not only the immune system, it affects all the other systems of the body like digestive system, nervous system, excretory system, and circulation system.

The metabolism works at a decreasing pace resulting into creating less hunger. The addicts are unable to eat a good diet, which makes them look weak and lean. This affects the intestines of the body resulting into various other problems like constipation. This contributes to the less flow of energies into the body of addicts making lazy and inefficient. The kidneys and liver are damaged due to excessive flow of toxins in the body. Therefore, they damage the digestive and excretory system of the body.

Another effect is that a drug excites the flow of blood as soon as it enters the body. This leads to high blood pressure and heartbeat rate. They can even cause the cardiac problems due to regular excitement of blood pressure. This ensures the destruction in the circulation system of the body. Those who smoke the drugs pose fatal risks to their respiratory system. The lungs can even develop cancerous lumps.

There are severe negative effects of drugs on nervous system. The drugs take over the control of brain thereby causing mental disorders like inability to concentrate, disturbed co-ordination of the various functions, unexplained anxiety, irritation, frustration, stress and insomnia. The addict loses control over the day-to-day affairs of his life. An individual who is addicted for any type of drugs faces endless trouble with the nervous system. Other effects may be like bad skin, damaged hair follicles and weak nails as there is less absorption of ital nutrients by the body of the addict.

A drug rehabilitation center concentrates upon the above harms and works to recover the effects as soon as possible to provide a healthy life to the addicts. They follow various drug rehabilitation programs to recover the addiction and heal the various systems of the human body.
