In Christian News Today… In Newark, NJ… Former New Jersey Governor, James E. McGreevey, is once again campaigning, but not for political office. The former New Jersey governor is hoping to be accepted as a candidate for the priesthood in the Episcopal Church, which has begun ordaining openly gay clergy. McGreevey, who has already earned a Divinity Degree, had his application to become a postulate rejected last month. He says he plans to continue trying, and his current work is a [sort] of test ground of his commitment. McGreevey is a recovery specialist at the Integrity House, a residential drug treatment center in Newark. McGreevey, who resigned as governor of New Jersey in 2004, announced at a press conference that year that he was “a gay American.” The former Governor had been married twice, with two children. He claims that his resignation as Governor was a result of blackmail by a man, with whom he admits to have had extra marital affairs. Neither the former Governor nor the Episcopal Diocese of Newark would discuss the status of McGreevey’s application for the priesthood.
