My Friend Has Made Plans to Kill Herself, and I Don’t Know What to Do. Any Advice?
Question by Haley: My friend has made plans to kill herself, and I don’t know what to do. Any advice?
Ever since I have known her, for 4 years, she has always been sad. I was her only friend in primary school. Her parents are divorced. I think her parents do care about her, but they just don’t show it. I know her mom. Her mom is schizophrenic, but I know her mom. Her mom loves her to death, but sometimes her illness gets the best of her and she ends up yelling at her. One night, her mother kicked her out of her house. This girl also told me that once her mother slapped her.
About 2 weeks ago she said to me, ” I think I know when I’m going to commit suicide… after my 14th birthday, or after my freshman year.” I don’t know what to do. All of my friends have some sort of debilitating mental disability. I’m only 13 years old. I have considered telling a teacher at our school, Mrs.Oaks about her problem. I don’t know if I want to see her cry though. My friend does go to therapy, but I don’t know if it’s working. I don’t know if I want to stop her either. Her entire life has been shitty. Her parents don’t appreciate her, she doesn’t have many friends, she is on anti-psychotics and anti-depressants (they constantly up the dosages), sleeping medicines, she self-injures (not much), she has been in a mental health hospital for telling a teacher that she wants to kill herself, she binges and purges… the list goes on and on. She’s hurting so bad. I just don’t know if she will ever get better. I want her to, but I just don’t know anymore. Her life is so terrible, I just don’t know what to do.
I was wondering if telling an adult is the right thing… should I just let her go?

Tell someone if you really care about her.
I know adults who had a horrible childhood with unloving parents and now lead a successful happy life. Your childhood may be important but it isn’t everything. So go right now and tell someone!
