Question by : Would this be a good idea for a book?
In 1939, Jackson, Minnesota, a woman’s–Alexandria King–husband–Randall King, who is a doctor, slowly shows signs of disloyalty, drug abuse, and alcoholism. All the while our main character, Emil Niccolsen, 14, comes into the Alex’s coffeehouse (The King’s Cup) and sees problems, especially when Alex’s niece, Molly, moves in from Chicago. Then one night, the Cup burns down. Randall isn’t charged but leaves town. In 1953, Randall returns to marry again, with Audrey oblivious to his habits, which appear to have been “cured”. Unbeknownst to her, he still goes out on the town. When she finds out, she plans to leave on the next train out of town. Before that, their country home burns to the ground, finally killing Randall. Emil comes back in 1962 to build a house with with his family. (I still need a title)

It sounds interesting, but what’s the plot? I’m not entirely sure why you’re jumping between those particular years, and you don’t seem to have any underlying point to the whole story. If you wanted to add more, might I suggest a romance? That way, you’d have a solid plot (the two peoples’ unwavering connection, even through the years), and all the other dramatic points would just be fillers that keep the reader interested.
Of course, maybe I just completely missed the plotline in that summary. If that’s the case, then I apologize. 😛
As for titles, I really liked the coffeehouse name, The King’s Cup. Maybe that, since it seems to be the starting point of the whole book?
